History, facts and features!
(This section will be updated with more details soon)

WMSC was organized in 1988 by 5 skaters in search of ice time and organized practice. Since then the club has grown to two clubs with as many as 66 skaters enrolled. Out of this group of skaters has come State and National champions, U.S. National Team members, U.S. World Team members and so far one Olympic Team member, Kimberly Derek. We've had several others compete at past Olympic trials.
Not only have past champions found a home with the WMSC , but lots of people who just like to skate and think that speedskating is the coolest sport around come out for workouts, socializing and fun. We hosted the 1995 National Short Track Championships in Grand Rapids and have pioneered new types of competitions including relay races, a winter triathlon, and the Michigan 400 which is an inline race on a 400m oval track (like longtrack ice speedskating).

Our annual events are:

-Michigan 400 Inline & Wheelchair Championships (3rd Weekend in May)
Last one was in 2000 due to lack of funding. If we can get more sponsors interested in tax deductions then we'll run these again.

-Shorline Spectacular 10K Alzehimers Assoc. Inline Road Race (Labor Day weekend).
Last one was in 2000 due to lack of funding. If we can get more sponsors interested in tax deductions then we'll run these again.

-Michigan Relays in Grand Rapids (end of October)-this one is a blast for everyone.

-Thanksgiving Classic Ice Championships (4th Sat. in Nov.)

-Michigan Winter Quadrathlon in Muskegon (4th Sun. in Jan.)-luge/ski/skate/snowshoe.

There are other competitions in the state of Michigan and all over the country. See the "Meets" page for the local schedule.
